By: Hong Channpheaktra

H.E Sirivudh expressed his thankfulness to the U.S that just the first relation with the United States, many foundations such as the road, schools were built and the scholarship for students at that time that has provided many impacts on Cambodia nowadays.

“It has been a good period as golden age relation between Cambodia and U.S if I do not talk about the period in 1970s,” said H.E Sirivudh on the second session of the Symposium.

H.E Norodom Sirivudh is a member of the Constitutional Council, Supreme Privy to His Majesty the King of Cambodia, and Founding Chairman of the Cambodian Institute for Cooperation and Peace.

“We cannot forget the time when U.S accepted the refugees who went across the border into Thailand during the Khmer Rouge Regime, some of whom already came back and involved in the government of Cambodia,” he said.

His Excellency also reminded the reason of the worse relation between U.S and Cambodia in 1960s and 1970s.

“I remember when I was the kid when Cambodia received US military but we face many problems with both Thailand and Vietnam,” he said, adding that Cambodia was not allowed to use U.S military to deal with those problems at that time when we plan to.

With his energetic presentation, His Excellency has showed his hope that the relationship between the United States and Cambodia will become greater and greater, hence more and more investments from the United States will have the presence in Cambodia.
